Letters from Mexico, Oaxaca Mission President

Oaxaca de Juarez, Oaxaca

Dear Esplin Family

It is a pleasure to greet you from this part of the Lord's vineyard and wish you with all our hearts that He is pouring rich blessings in your home.

Our heart is full of joy to receive Elder Esplin, he has arrived well and we can feel his love and desire to serve and "invite all people to come to Christ", we know that you had great influence in his preparation for this special time of his life and we have full confidence that his preparation at home will help him to be obedient like Christ, love all people and work "with all his heart, soul, mind and strength".

We know that these two years of faithful and selfless service, will be a strong foundation, upon which he will be able to build the rest of your life as a faithful disciple of the Savior, as he will learn to talk to his Heavenly Father more closely and frequently and to rely more fully on the guidance of the spirit to make wise decisions and know where to go to meet the "elect" and know what to say to find his way to their heart.

My beloved wife and I will be close to him through letters and regular interviews, especially in the first weeks of adjustment to "missionary life", and have full confidence that we will put all our hearts to care for him and help him to be a consecrated missionary, but we want to remind you, that your letters and your calls with words of inspiration and encouragement will be very important so that he can be calm and happy, knowing that you are calm and happy.

To help in this important work we suggest the following:

Elder Esplin may only contact you on his preparation day or on special days (such as your birthday, Father's or Mother's Day, Christmas) if he calls you on another day, please invite him to be obedient and promise him that he will be happier. But if there is a family emergency that requires attention, please do not hesitate to call the mission office at 951 514 2017 or 951 109 8192, or by email: 2012820@churchofjesuschrist.org.

  • In your calls ask him to share with you any significant spiritual experience they have had that week,

  • In your calls or video calls on preparation day ask about the people he is teaching, tell them you will pray for them,

  • Ask about his health, share tasty recipes,

  • Share with him, experiences that will edify him

  • The rule is that he should contact you every week, if this does not happen, please let me know

so I can help him to be obedient to this important missionary rule.

If you would like to send a package to your son, you may do so in the name of Joel Martinez with attention to Elder Esplin, to the mission office address which is:

• Huerto de los Ciruelos #101, Fracc. Trinidad de las Huertas, Oaxaca de Juarez, Oaxaca CP 68120

We wish you many blessings and thank you for your love for God in sharing your son with the Lord for this time, but, above all, for giving us the opportunity to work alongside Elder Esplin as fellow servants.

Sincerely,
President and Sister Martinez Mexico Oaxaca Mission

Dear Elder Esplin,

My wife and I are so excited for you to arrive to Oaxaca! You have been in our prayers and hope you have enjoyed your time in the MTC. We would like to write a short letter explaining what will happen your first day when you to Oaxaca and all the fun activities you will participate in. You will arrive at the airport here in Oaxaca in the morning where we will be waiting for you! After you will go to the mission offices to enjoy a delicious breakfast. Next, we know you will be tired from waking up so early and traveling so you will have a good amount of time to relax and take a nap. Now that you have a little more energy you will receive a couple of trainings from the secretaries of the mission and after they will take you to eat some classic Oaxaca food for lunch. Then you will receive another training from the APs once you return. Next, we get to have some fun and start THE MISSION EXPERIENCE, this is going to be your first experience as a missionary working in the field. You will go out with 1 or 2 missionaries to experience a day in the life of a missionary in the mission Oaxaca, Mexico. You will knock doors, contacts in the street, lesson with people in teaching and will get to meet some members! It will be lots of fun and don ́t worry you will have an awesome companion that will help you each step of the way. After this fun mission activity, you will have your welcome interview with me, Presidente Martinez and have time to get to know the other new missionaries. Then we will end the night with a special meeting for only new missionaries where you will meet your new companion and after we will go to mission house to eat dinner! After, you will then go to your respected places to sleep and the next morning you will go with your trainer to your new area.

If you ́re a little stressed out or a little scared, that’s okey and very normal. We want to tell you that we love you, there will tons of missionaries here to help when you arrive and always remember that God loves you and he will help you in all things.

We are so excited to meet you in person and if you have questions let us know!

Sincerely

President Joel Martínez Ortega and Sister Lupita Olguin Negrete
